Gyms in this city open and close constantly. The ones that were here when S R Gym opened are almost all gone. That is the only superlative this page is going to make, and it is the one we can prove.
Where a moment is backed by something we hold, a cutting, a photograph, a published circular, we show the document beside it.
1994

Brijesh started with home workouts, then joined a gym to train seriously. He was a student at Akhand Anand Arts & Commerce College in Surat at the time.
Document · 1997

A Gujarati newspaper report from the time names Brijesh S. Joshi of Akhand Anand Arts & Commerce College placing second in the South Gujarat University inter-college weight lifting competition, and third in the 75 kg group in power lifting.
Document · 1999

Brijesh opened S R Gym in Surat. Members trained there went on to enter bodybuilding competitions and win medals under the gym's name, the local newspaper cuttings from those years are still kept at the gym.
Document · 2000s

Gujarati press cuttings from the years after opening record S R Gym members placing in regional bodybuilding competitions.
Document · 2013

Brijesh was appointed as a lecturer at a fitness instructor training institute, and began teaching people who wanted to coach professionally. He is still listed as faculty at the G-KFTI Fitness Training Institute, whose head office address is the Katargam gym.
Document · 2015

He began judging bodybuilding competitions, working up from district events. He now holds a Category B judge card with the Indian Body Building and Fitness Federation, and held a Gujarat State Bodybuilders Association judges card from 2019 to 2024.
Document · 2022

Brijesh is named as Joint Secretary of the Strength Bodybuilding Association South Gujarat on the association's own championship circulars.
2024

Brijesh began coaching clients remotely, so that people outside Surat could work with him. Clients have since included people training outside India.
Document · 2025

SBBASG's championship circulars for the 6th Man of Steel, Mr. Surat and Mr. South Gujarat list him as the association's President.
The Ved Road floor in Katargam came first, in 1999. Adajan followed, at Choksi Wadi above Way Wait Restaurant. They keep different hours, Katargam opens at 5:00 am, Adajan at 6:00 am, and they have separate Google listings and separate sets of reviews.
What they share is the phone number and the coach. An archived copy of the gym's earlier website from 2019 lists Brijesh Joshi as the contact for both branches on the same number the gym uses today, which is a small thing but a real one: the business has not changed hands.
The owner is on the floor. That is the whole proposition, and it is increasingly unusual, the gyms that dominate search in Surat now are facility brands with membership desks, and none of them puts a named person in front of you who will still be there in three years.
In the past few years, members from the early days have started bringing their children to train. It is the clearest signal the gym has that it did something right, and no ranking system will ever measure it.
Because it is not a checkable statement, and because the moment you make it you invite a comparison you will lose. There are gyms in Surat with five hundred and seven hundred Google reviews. S R Gym has 119 across both branches. On that axis, we are not the biggest and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What is true, and checkable: the gym opened in 1999, the same person has coached in it since, and both branches sit above 4.5 on Google. That is a narrower claim and a defensible one, and it is the one this site makes everywhere.
This site does not print a trainer count, a member count we cannot source, press coverage that does not exist, or federation affiliations that belong to somebody else. The documents page sets out what is evidenced and what is not, including the things that are deliberately absent.
