Who he is, in one paragraph

Brijesh Joshi is a gym owner and coach in Surat, Gujarat. He opened S R Gym on Ved Road in 1999 and still coaches on the floor there and at the Adajan branch. He competed as a lifter before he started coaching, and he now holds office in the association that organises bodybuilding competition in South Gujarat. If you train at S R Gym, he is the person who will show you how to squat.

1994–1997: lifting, and a result in the paper

He started training at home in 1994, then joined a gym to train properly. By 1997 he was a student at Akhand Anand Arts & Commerce College on Ved Road, and competing for it.

A Gujarati newspaper report from that year, headlined “આંતર કોલેજ પાવર લીફ્ટીંગમાં અખંડ આનંદ કોલેજનાં ત્રણ વિદ્યાર્થીઓ મોખરે”, “Three students of Akhand Anand College lead in inter-college power lifting”, names બ્રિજેશ એસ. જોષી as placing second in weight lifting and third in the 75 kg group in power lifting at the South Gujarat University inter-college championships.

That is worth stating precisely, because it is often repeated loosely. The clipping says second in weight lifting, not power lifting. The 75 kg power lifting placing was third. Both are in the same report, reproduced on the page about that result.

1999: opening S R Gym

Two years later he opened S R Gym. The first floor was on Ved Road in Katargam, where the branch still operates. A second branch opened later in Adajan, above Way Wait Restaurant at Choksi Wadi.

Members trained there went on to compete, and the gym keeps the local press cuttings recording their placings. An archived copy of the gym's earlier website from March 2019 lists him as the contact for both branches on the same phone number the gym uses today.

Coaching on the floor since 1999

More than 20,000 members have trained at S R Gym since it opened, a figure Brijesh has stated publicly on his own YouTube channel. Some of them have gone on to work as trainers or open gyms of their own; for a period, a fitness certification institute ran its courses out of the Ved Road gym.

In 2024 he began coaching remotely as well, so people outside Surat could work with him. One of the results published on this site, Kalpesh, sixteen weeks, was coached entirely from Surat to the United States.

President, Strength Bodybuilding Association South Gujarat

SBBASG organises bodybuilding competition across South Gujarat, the Man of Steel series, Mr. Surat, Mr. South Gujarat, and the zone-level shows that feed them.

The association's own championship circulars name him. A Gujarati circular for the 3rd Man of Steel, Mr. Katargam Zone in September 2022 lists “શ્રી બ્રિજેશ જોષી - (જોઈન્ટ સેક્રેટરી- SBBASG)”. Circulars for the 6th Man of Steel in January 2025 and February 2025 list him as President, printed alongside the same phone number this gym publishes.

General Secretary, Gym Owners Association of Gujarat

Alongside the bodybuilding association, Brijesh has held office in the body that represents gym owners across the state. In 2020, when gyms across Gujarat were closed under lockdown and owners were pressing for clarity on reopening, Divya Bhaskar quoted him by name as its General Secretary, speaking for gym owners on the conditions they were prepared to meet.

The association also appeared on TV9 Gujarati News in June 2021, and the post announcing that appearance lists him among the office bearers.

This matters more than anything published on this website, because a Gujarati daily naming someone in a role is a check that a business cannot perform on itself. It is the strongest single piece of evidence on this page, and it belongs to a publication with no connection to us.

How he coaches

The method is deliberately plain, and he describes it that way himself. New members are taught the barbell lifts before they are given a programme, because a programme you cannot execute is a waste of three months. Load goes up slowly and on a schedule. Food is adjusted around what you actually eat, which in Surat usually means Gujarati vegetarian food, and a plan that ignores that gets abandoned by week three.

Published results range from 75 days to eight months. Most sit between five and seven. He does not publish a promise faster than that.

The limits of this record

Being specific about the limits is part of being trusted on the rest. The judging licence, the national-level officiating and the fitness certifications are all real and all set out on the credentials page, most of them with the document photographed. What follows is what this page does not claim.

No connection to the Indian Body Builders Federation, the IFBB or any Olympic body. SBBASG's affiliation runs through a different organisation, and that distinction is set out on the association page.

Nothing clinical. He is a coach and not a doctor, physiotherapist or dietitian, and no certificate on that page changes it.

Not every part of a twenty-six year career leaves a document behind, and where a figure rests on his own account this site says so in the sentence rather than dressing it up. The documents page shows the primary sources for the rest.
