Brijesh Joshi, founder of S R Gym and President of the Strength Bodybuilding Association South Gujarat, at a championship in Surat

Your coach runs South Gujarat's bodybuilding association

Brijesh Joshi is President of the Strength Bodybuilding Association South Gujarat, the body that organises the Man of Steel series, Mr. Surat and Mr. South Gujarat. The association names him on its own championship circulars, as Joint Secretary in 2022 and as President in 2025, printed alongside the same phone number this gym publishes.

His own competing came first. In 1997, while studying at Akhand Anand Arts and Commerce College, a Gujarati newspaper reported him placing second in weight lifting and third in the 75 kg power lifting group at the South Gujarat University inter-college championships. He opened S R Gym two years later, and around 20,000 members have trained here since.

He is also a registered Category B judge with the Indian Body Building and Fitness Federation, and received the Gujarat Shri award in 2023 for services to the sport in the state. Every certificate, judge card and plaque is photographed on the credentials page.

Two gyms in Surat: Adajan and Katargam

The Katargam branch on Ved Road came first, in 1999, and Adajan followed at Choksi Wadi. They keep different opening times, so it is worth checking which one suits your morning before you decide.

Which branch is yours?

If you live west of the Tapi — Adajan Gam, Choksi Wadi, Pal, Rander or Jahangirpura — Adajan is the one to walk into. It opens at 6am. If you are on the Ved Road side of the city — Ved Road, Singanpor, Ishwar Nagar, Amroli or Dabholi — Katargam is closer, and it opens an hour earlier at 5am, which matters if you train before a shift rather than before an office.

The coaching is the same at both, and membership starts from ₹1,700 for one month at either branch.

These are individual results. What happens for you depends on where you start, how consistently you train, and how closely you follow the plan.

What you can train for here

Most people arrive with one of these goals in mind. Each page explains how that goal is coached at S R Gym, what it costs, and roughly how long members have taken to get there.

Or you are coming in with something specific

Plenty of people walk in because something hurts, or because a doctor told them to. Each of these is coached at both branches.

Every session here starts with yoga

Before a member touches a weight, they do the twelve positions of Surya Namaskar. Brijesh completed the Foundation Course in Yoga Science for Wellness at Surat's district yoga wellness centre, run under the aegis of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, and the sequence is taught to every new member in their first fortnight rather than left to be copied badly from a video. Most people who walk in have spent nine hours sitting, and asking a body in that state to squat or press without first moving the spine, hips and shoulders through their range is how the lower back ends up taking work that was never meant for it.

That is one of six things that have stayed the same here since 1999. The others are form before load, protecting the first session of the week, building the diet from real food before any supplement, treating sleep and rest as part of the programme, and refusing to coach steroids at any level.

Coaching for people who train outside Surat

Brijesh began coaching online in 2024 so that people beyond the city could work with him. Clients receive a plan built around their schedule and the equipment they can actually reach, and it is adjusted as they report back. One of the results above, Kalpesh, was coached from Surat to the United States across sixteen weeks.
